If you are experiencing 1 or both suction cups on the ends of your Rod Rig assembly losing suction, here are a few things to try.
1. First, ensure that both the vehicle window and the suction cup surfaces are clean and free of debris. Thoroughly wipe down these mating surfaces with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner to guarantee a secure, long-lasting seal. Please note that no suction seal is permanent; it is normal to occasionally press the suction cup pump once or twice to maintain optimal suction.
2. If the suction loss persists, inspect the four Allen head bolts securing the rubber suction cup to the injection-molded mount. Tighten these bolts an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn beyond the snug point to ensure a proper seal between the two components.
3. If you are still experiencing issues, the final step is to adjust the "toe-in" or "toe-out" of each suction cup. At the end of each aluminum extrusion, you will find a bolt that connects the injection-molded mount to the assembly. This is not a fixed hole, but a slotted one, allowing you to adjust the angle at which the suction cup meets the window surface. By adjusting these so that the cups are no longer perfectly parallel, you can relieve tension on the mounts. Symptoms that indicate a need for a toe adjustment include a loss of suction that alternates between cups as the opposing angles fight one another. To fix this, loosen the bolts on both ends of the Rod Rig, install the assembly in your vehicle, and press each end firmly against the windows. Once suction is built on both sides, tighten the connections at the end of the extrusion. This will lock the new adjustment into place and should alleviate the tension between the two suction cups.
If you continue to experience suction loss after following these steps, the issue may be a seal failure in the plunger system. Please contact our support team at support@therodrig.com so we can provide you with a replacement unit.
