In the box: telescoping aluminum crossbar with a 4.5" vacuum cup on each end, two small boxes of rod holder parts (holders and hooks), an assembly tool, and alcohol wipes.
1. Assemble the rod holders
- Press two hooks together onto the back of a holder. They fit with a slot-and-tab connection.
- Thread the two screws into the metal inserts in the hooks and tighten them with the included tool.
- Repeat for each rod holder.
2. Attach the rod holders
- Loosen the knob on a rod holder so the T-slot nut is free.
- Slide the opening at the top of the holder over the smaller section of the crossbar.
- Line up the T-slot nut with the channel and slide the holder on.
- Tighten the knob to lock the holder in place.
3. Mount the cross bar assembly
- Pick a side to start on. Flip up the vacuum cup and clean both the cup surface and the window with an alcohol wipe. This removes grime and any leftover residue from manufacturing.
- Flip the cup back down and position it against the window, keeping the crossbar level.
- Press firmly and pump the cup 6–10 times, until the white indicator line disappears.
- On the other side, clean the window and cup the same way.
- Extend the telescoping tube until the cup reaches the window. Check that both ends are at about the same height.
- Pump this cup 6–10 times, until the white line disappears.
4. Position the holders and load rods
- To move a holder, loosen its knob about half a turn, slide it where you want it, and retighten.
- Leave enough space between holders and nearby obstructions, such as headrests, to slip the rods in.
- Press each rod up against the bungee straps and let it slide into place. The bungees can grip the rod blank itself, so the handle can extend past the holder if your vehicle needs that.
- Rods can be stored whole or broken down, since a single holder can secure a rod at just one point.
- If a rod tip hits the headliner, release the vacuum cups and tilt the crossbar down slightly.
5. Removal
- Pull up on one of the release tabs on the side of each vacuum cup until you hear the air release. You don't need to pull both tabs.
- Release the other cup and remove the crossbar.
- The extrusion can be slid back into itself, the pyush botton detent will lok into place for secure storage.
- Apply the yellow protective suction cup covers to prevent contaminants and damage to the suction cups while in storage.
